Started by VC investors, Tracxn tracks startups across more than 230 sectors spanning Enterprise Infrastructure, Applications, Consumer, Mobile, Technology, HealthTech, EdTech, FinTech and more.

Behind this chart is an exhaustive analysis of the $170 billion invested across 9,228 rounds globally. A total of 8,648 startups and 5,593 investors wre tabulated. The dollars invested, deal count, and the top-funded companies are shown.

As the chart clearly indicates, Enterprise Security and Healthcare IT are the hottest technology sectors of 2016. Artificial Intelligence comes in third place followed by Online Retail and Marketing Tech.

The Ranking Methodology uses a custom multi-step algorithm accounting for the deals and dollars invested basis participation from marquee investors, and other signals. Only funding rounds greater than $1 million have been included in the analysis.

*The chart excludes deal activity in China, debt, post IPO and grants; horizontal sectors such as SaaS and marketplaces, and the energy sector. In the healthcare sector, only healthcare analytics and healthcare IT were included.
